Top 5 Celebrity Rehab Centers

Drug treatment centers of the rich and famous

These days, it seems like a stint or two in rehab is practically a requirement of celebrity. Either that, or a sex scandal (or both, if you claim to have a sex addiction, a la Tiger Woods). Of course, with these posh drug treatment centers to recover in, even rehab can be glamorous.

Here are the top five rehab centers for those who want (and can afford) to get well in the lap of luxury:

1. The Betty Ford Clinic

Perhaps no name is more synonymous with “rehab” than “Betty Ford”. Established by the former First Lady after her own battle with depression, drugs (prescription painkillers) and alcohol, The Betty Ford Clinic is widely known as “the mother of all rehab facilities” and is often mentioned in popular culture. The pilot episode of the hit sitcom “Murphy Brown” opens with the title character returning from a stay at the clinic. In real life, the clinic has been attended by the likes of Keith Urban, Ozzy Osbourne, Jerry Lee Lewis, Chevy Chase, and Anna Nicole Smith. At $6,000 for a 30-day stay, The Betty Ford Clinic is also accessible to non-celebrities looking to “dry out”.

2. Promises

If you have almost $9,000 dollars a week to devote to your care and treatment, you can join the ranks of Britney Spears and Robert Downey, Jr. as a guest of Promises Treatment Center in Malibu, California. This oceanside retreat promotes wellness through “holistic healing,” including treatments such as yoga and meditation, acupuncture, art therapy and equine therapy, in addition to more traditional methods like medical detox, psychiatric help and counseling.

3. Passages

Founded by real estate developer Chris Prentiss after his son, Pax, battled heroin addiction, Passages is another beachside rehab center in Malibu, California, dedicated to opulence as well as rehabilitation. According to Prentiss, the purpose of the center’s mahogany doors, ocean views and marble entryway is to show patients “the utmost respect” and create a “healing energy.” This respect and healing energy can be yours for just $39,500 for 30 days.

4. Caron Foundation

This non-profit facility in Pennsylvania may not have an ocean view, but it’s still luxurious enough for the likes of Liza Minnelli and Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler, among others. With a list of recreational activities including bowling, camping, rafting and indoor rock climbing, Caron seems more like summer camp than a treatment facility. Still, its gender-specific, age-specific programs are well respected in the industry. They don’t come cheap, though; a 30-day stay will set you back about $25,000.

5. Crossroads

Get well in sunny Antigua at Crossroads Centre, founded by music legend Eric Clapton. This non-profit drug treatment center offers both residential and outpatient services based on the traditional 12-step program, but with “complementary therapies” such as yoga, acupuncture and massage. A four-week stay runs just over $20,000, while the extended program (six weeks) costs about $28,000.
